PURRRR PULLLL

PURRRR PULLLL — S.A.D. STORIES
PURRRR PULLLL
December 1, 2025
I think this is why he says purrrrr pullll now.

We never childproofed the cabinets when he first got mobile.
Not because we were trying to be brave.
Because I didn’t want to shut the world too early.

I taught him no glass yes boxes.
Open and close.
Look then touch.
Touch then learn.
I stayed on him and he stayed curious.

But walking changes everything.
Walking turns the whole house into a map.
Corners become destinations.
Cabinets become questions.
My tracking got harder.
His confidence got louder.

A friend once mentioned a hotel trick for wrapping cabinet handles.
We didn’t buy anything new.
We just worked with what we had.

Purple bib bandana.
Soft. Bright. Easy to see.

And here each cabinet gets its own color.

This one happened to be purple.
Weeks ago he walked up to it
and I said the word out loud.

Purple.

And something in him held it.
The cloth. The contrast. The timing.
It stuck in a way blue never had to.
He’s been saying blue for months
but this one opened a new door in him.

Now he smiles hard before he says it.
Purrrrr pullll.
And he laughs after too
like he can feel the win in his own mouth.

The world is small enough for him to notice
and big enough that every notice becomes something new.

He treats each word like a little step.
He takes each step steady.
He knows where he is going before I do.
And I get to watch him put the pieces together
one sound at a time.
