he turned his fear into a toy

he turned his fear into a toy
June 21, 2025
The first time he saw it,
he flinched.

He stayed back.
His eyes locked in fear.

A spring hiding in the wall,
behind a door he’d seen
many times before.

Coiled and strange.
It sprung when he touched it.
It made a sound he didn’t ask for.

Today he crawled over
and made it sing
the same tune.

Just a different reaction.

Boing.
Again.
Boing.
Again.
Boing.
Again.
Boing.
Again.

He didn’t seek shelter in my arms.
He didn’t flinch either.

Just watched it move,
then reached for it again.

Still.
Curious.
Unafraid.

He’s learning how to look.
