what grows next to good things

what grows next to good things

See this one?
It looks just like the others.

Bright green,
comes in threes,
but appears harmless.

But it’s not.
This one can hurt you.
Maybe not right away,
but later, and slowly,
if you touch it without knowing.

It’s called poison oak.

It doesn’t look scary.
It doesn’t come with a warning sign.
It just grows,
like everything else.

Sometimes the most dangerous things
don’t look dangerous at all.

So we pay attention.
We ask questions.
We wait a little longer
before we reach.

Not everything green means go.
Not everything that looks harmless is harmless.
But most things will tell you what they are
if you learn how to look.
